4 Ways to Start Your Morning For More ENERGY

Your daily morning routine is the foundation

for your life!!

Alright guys, here is a little dive into what helps me start the day and get through it!!

Now I will also be honest and realistic and say sometimes I don't get all 4 but I'll always make time for at least of two of them. Always my morning cocktail!!

  1. The best morning cocktail; water, lemon juice and pink Himalayan sea salt. I'll explain in greater detail how the combination of these three simple items sets your body up for success.

  2. Sunlight!!! The best! Get outside for a walk or just go stand out on the deck for 5 minutes, let the sun hit as much of your skin as possible, I'm telling you, game changer.

  3. Movement - wake up your body and prepare your mind! Morning warmup / stretch / yoga session. I prefer a little bit of cardio to warm up my muscles followed by some stretches accompanied by some deep breathing.

  4. Wait for it...... COLD SHOWER!!! Yup, I know it sounds terrible and why on earth would someone willingly do this but... once you get past the initial thought of "oh my beep beep beep" and ready to get out, you will feel an invigorating energy surging through your body, trust me!

A successful day begins with a purposeful morning. A great morning routine can transform your entire day.A deliberate and intentional morning routine aligns what you do with how you do it.

THE CONCOCTION: SALT, WATER AND LEMON

12oz – room temperature filtered water

1/2 organic lemon squeezed

1/4 teaspoon Himalayan Salt

Though these three ingredients appear relatively simple, they yield powerful results when combined and ingested fasted first thing in the morning.

12 OUNCES OF WATER

It’s not a secret that water is essential to life and your body’s internal functions. Drinking 12 ounces of it first thing in the morning will help you focus on staying hydrated and maintain your energy throughout the day.

SQUEEZED LEMON

Lemon juice is great for gastrointestinal function, Vitamin C production, reduced inflammation, and good immune function. It also provides the necessary acidity needed for the stomach and gut to break down any food consumed throughout the day.

HIMALAYAN SALT

Salts provide the main electrolytes and minerals critical for normal function. However, don’t just consume any salt. Himalayan salt is far less processed and less toxic than your traditional table salt. It also provides you with more electrolytes and minerals than average salts.

SUNLIGHT IN THE MORNING:

The ideal time to to get some sun in the morning is between 8-10am. Getting both UV and infrared light are the both plentiful in the morning; the reason this is important is because infrared helps enhance the absorption of UV rays in a healthy way—as opposed to one being stronger than the other and resulting in sunburn. The healthy combination helps to lower inflammation in the body, making it the ideal hour to catch some rays!

Another bonus of getting that morning light is that it helps to balance your circadian rhythm, which is how your body regulates when to go to sleep and when to wake up- ideally having your peak energy in the mornings and die down into the evening.

Also morning sunlight has a significant impact on our endocrine system. When we think of sunshine, we think happiness and there’s a reason behind that. Exposure to healthy amounts of Vitamin D helps to regulate moods! So starting your morning off with a little sunshine vitamin can help kick start your day in a happy and healthy way!

MOVEMENT IN THE MORNING:

Movement is a tremendous source of energy in the morning!!

Morning exercise has been shown to improve focus and cognitive abilities all day long. Not only will you feel awake and have more energy after even a simple exercise, but your mind will be ready to take on your tasks.

COLD SHOWER:

Thousands of people from all over the world already incorporate cold showers into their daily routines. The main benefits reported by people who take cold showers regularly are listed below:

KNOWN BENEFITS OF COLD SHOWERS

https://www.wimhofmethod.com/benefits-of-cold-showers Reduced stress levels. Higher level of alertness. More robust immune response. Increased willpower. Weight loss.

It takes a strong mind to endure the cold for extended periods of time. By incorporating cold showers into your daily routine, you are strengthening your willpower, which benefits many aspects of your daily life.

“Focused, productive, successful mornings generate focused, productive, successful days — which inevitably create a successful life — in the same way that unfocused, unproductive, and mediocre mornings generate unfocused, unproductive, and mediocre days, and ultimately a mediocre quality of life,” says Hal Elrod, author of “The Miracle Morning.”

One thing that I also believe is that you don't have to wake up at 5am to be productive. I had this idea in my head that I would never truly be successful if I wasn't a morning person, if I wasn't getting up at 5am and grinding out a workout and just constantly go go go.

Now I have done that, anyone who knows me (not a morning person) is probably rolling their eyes thinking ya right you used to get up that early, but I did. Not every day, but I beat myself up when I didn't. I would go to bed at around 1:30am and wake up around 5-5:30 and go to the gym and do about an hours worth of cardio, head to work, head to my second job, head back to the gym for weights and then try to eat and get sleep. Looking back was I really benefiting myself doing this, no, why, because I was burning myself out. I wasn't truly putting 100% into anything I was putting 50% in each one and just hoping it worked. Nutrition was ok but not great, I lived off of protein bars and smoothies and energy drinks. Then the energy drinks started to have the opposite affects... needless to say it was a vicious circle. When you start to cultivate a healthy balance with life in all aspects; sleep, nutrition, movement, stress and all the rest; you truly start to feel more in sync with yourself. Allowing yourself you take time for you instead of literally rushing to do everything. Time managing your day so you feel energized and productive, creating to-do lists that are realistic (3 things a day that you will for sure get done) and most importantly getting enough sleep.

Once again, I say this all the time, everyone is different and needs and responds to things differently.

BIO INDIVIDUALITY - There's no one-size-fits-all diet or lifestyle – each person is a unique individual with highly individualized requirements. Personal differences in anatomy, metabolism, body composition and cell structure all influence your overall health and the foods that make you feel your best.

The 3 principles of bio-individuality:

There are three main statements, or principles, that sum up bio-individuality pretty perfectly:

  1. No one diet or lifestyle works for everyone.

  2. Your needs will change over time.

  3. One person’s food is another person’s poison.

The trick to truly living a healthy, vibrant and nourished life is to figure out what makes your body tick, figure out what works for you and what you need to thrive and then embrace it, run with it and never compare your journey to someone else. Playing that comparison game is all too easy now a days and to be completely honest, it is one of the UNHEALTHIEST things that you can do– not only for your mind but your body as well! Listen to your body, it is always sending you signs through out the day during the things you are doing, what you are eating along with everything else. Your body doesn't want to see you suffer it wants you to thrive and feel nourished, it craves to feel good and full of energy.

Lastly, one thing I learned and would really encourage is to not try and do everything all at once. What I found was when I tried to do this, which I try to do with everything, the days that you don't get it ALL in you feel defeated. So I started with the morning cocktail first, I have been doing this for over a year now, I literally carry a shaker cup with me every where. Then I incorporated movement 3 times a week in the morning, although it was not easy to not go everything every morning, it made it way more attainable and less stressful. I started to notice how I felt after my morning drink and movement, then taking in sunlight, how glorious!! Then... the dreaded cold showers, I cringed at the thought of getting into a freezing cold shower, like who's idea was thing. The first one sucked... obviously, then again I started to notice this crazy amount of energy after, my skin feeling great, everything just felt great. I even got to the point where my timer would go off to say I could get out and I would wait till the song I was listening to was done. Some mornings are harder than others, but my goodness, there is no denying the benefits.

So... what are you going to do to take control over your day? How do you want to see your days structured? How do you want to feel?

I am telling you, feeling tired, drained, no energy, zero motivation, the last goes on and on, isn't normal. Make changes, treat your body like the unique amazing machine it is, fuel it, rest it and move it!! It doesn't have to be hard it just has to work for you!

Sending much love, good vibes and health your way,

Jess xo
