Meet the Owner and Therapist of Kinetic Massage!!

Hello and welcome!! My name is Jessica Jones and I am the owner and main therapist here at Kinetic Massage and Wellness where we believe that health is wealth and we are here to help you achieve that! Here's is a little bit about me and my journey to becoming a massage therapist;

I have been a massage therapist for three and a half years now, also with a year as a student therapist. The question I get alot is "what made you choose massage therapy?". My journey to becoming a massage therapist started before I even realized it, almost 10 years ago when I was in excruciating pain, mostly my low back, I felt it all day, especially when trying to sit or lay down, my back would essentially seize up and I couldn't move. I thought it was from walking on concrete all day or shovelling stalls and riding horses but nothing was helping. Finally my mom decided to take me to a chiropractor to see if maybe my back was just out, after sending me for x-rays and realizing that... nope just an extra bone in my back, I had an extra vertebrae (a 6th lumbar vertebrae). ... you think I would be taller (never gets old).

Typically having an extra vertebrae (about 10% of the population have this) does not have an affect on health. Unfortunately for me it caused a lot of issues. My chiropractor said that my early twenties would be the worst and then my body should start to accept it more, apparently because of where it was positioned it was attempting to fuse with my pelvic bone... lovely! Well he was right, in my early twenties, it was definitely the worst that is for sure. But with the help of physio, chiro, stretching and strengthening exercises and MASSAGE I am mostly pain free, as long as I stick to my treatment plan and continue with preventative maintenance.

This is the main reason I am so so passionate about helping people, especially with low back pain and problems. I work hard with my clients to not only treat to problem area but to also address the cause and create a treatment plan that is unique to them. I have had clients that have suffered with chronic low back pain for years that after careful assessment and treatment now live pain free.

I did not know right away that massage therapist was the path I wanted to take. After always working on the family farm and with horses, I went into the automotive industry, also with family. After realizing I wanted to move on from that, I went and worked as a heavy equipment operator for 2 years.... I know, who would have thought...and... I loved it. But with full intentions of only doing that to save up for school, still not knowing what was going to take, I finally made a decision after carefully thinking what career I could help people and eventually own my own business in. Never would I have thought how incredibly rewarding it would be and how many amazing people I would meet and get to help. Having the opportunity to help improve someones quality of life and work hard to have them live pain free is a feeling I only wish I could express. It is an honour to have a safe space where people can be heard and hopefully leave feeling refreshed, balanced and better than when they arrived. I pride myself on tailoring each treatment specifically to my clients concerns and needs and my clients well being is my number one priority.

I was lucky enough to spend the majority of my career with an amazing clinic that was more like family. Last year I moved to Calgary and opened up my own office inside of a gym as well was working full time for my families automotive shop (ya ya, I went back to it and had alot of fun). I absolutely loved working down in Calgary and I learned alot, I worked primarily with power lifters and Olympic weight lifters, it was an amazing experience. I was down there for almost a year doing both jobs, I did not want to give up massage, I tried hard to juggle both and it was very rewarding. After evaluating where I truly wanted to be I decided to move back up to my home town, Stony Plain. I had incredible clients before leaving and I have been so so incredibly blessed to have the majority of my clients now as ones that had previously. And to all of you that have come back to see me after moving back, I couldn't even begin to tell you how much it means to me.

I am looking forward to growing my practice and continuing my education to bring as much to the table as possible when working with my clients. There are a few courses I am currently looking at taking that I think would be extremely beneficial to my self as well to my clients and help me form the best treatment plans possible.

I am also currently taking my sports nutrition to help my clients in other aspects of their life and become the healthiest version of themselves in all senses. I am here for my clients in any way that I possibly can be and the more I have to offer the more I feel of value to those I see.

Again thank you to each and every one of you that have supported me through my journey, I am so unbelievably excited for what is to come and to share it with all of you. I wouldn't be where I am today without the love and support of those around me and pushing through the hard stuff. We have all had an interesting year and I am just so thankful to have a job and to be able to be doing something I love so much and am so passionate about.

Each week, at least once, I will be writing about different topics associated with over all health and wellness and I look forward to hearing what you think.

Sending much love, good vibes and health your way,

Jess
